Building materials were found in the region that the Aztecs lived and were also traded for. In Tenochtitlan the Mexicas traded swamp delicacies such as frogs, algae, and fish for building materials. Rocks and fill were also brought to Tenochtitlan from the shore to reclaim land for chinampas and houses(Smith 46).
