  • Exercise: How would you measure moral development?

    • Step 1: Interview
      • Task: Collect data from two interviews as examples of moral development
      • Procedure: Do interview, writing down all the important information
        • remember, what you will need to judge moral development is the THINKING about issues, not the answer per se
      • Switch places

  Step 2: Analysis:
  • Task: Develop a scheme that would allow you to judge the level of moral development and criteria that you would use to judge sophistication
  • Procedure:
    • Define your criteria for moral development
      • remember, it's a factor in COGNITIVE development. What are signs of more or less sophisticated cognitive development?
      • Do you think that moral development is linear (i.e. that there are greater or less degrees of moral development) or that there are different types (like parenting style, there are several completely different ways to think about moral development that are qualitatively different)?
    • Define SPECIFIC criteria by which you would judge moral development, using examples from your data
