- Trust v. Mistrust (0-18 months): I am what I am given
- DURING INFANCY regular meeting of needs is important to develop trusting of time
- DURING ADOLESCENCE:
- Autonomy v. Shame/Doubt (18 months-3): I am what I will be (i.e. willfulness)
- DURING INFANCY: if hammered on too hard, becomes ashamed and meek
- DURING ADOLESCENCE:
- Initiative v. Guilt (3 1/2 - 6): I am what I can imagine I will be
- DURING TODDLERHOOD: punishment leads to fear of exploration
- DURING ADOLESCENCE:
- Industry v. Inferiority (School aged kids): I am what I will learn
